Opportunities to Evangelise

Posted in Evangelism, Youth by Travis Snode on the 3 May, 2008

We had a great time at our youth drop-in club on Friday night.  We had 6 young people come, and David did a great job preaching on “Attitude” from the story of Ahab and Naboth.  During the club, I was able to go out and talk with about a dozen or so young people who congregate on the walls.  Despite all the drink and profanity, we had a couple of good talks about God, and I was able to witness to them and invite them to the drop-in club.  I met one young man who came to our youth meetings that we had about 3.5 years ago when I first came to Northern Ireland.  All our young people worked hard to invite their friends and pass out leaflets as well.

I want to praise the Lord for the 12 people we helped today with community outreach.  We put leaflets through 300 letterboxes today!  Thank you to everyone who helped.  It was great fun and good exercise, so if you can help us this Saturday, we would really appreciate it.  Our goal is to 634 doors a week, so we are getting closer and closer.

This will primarily be a notice for people who live in the States.  Our sending church, Vision Baptist Church, is hosting the 4th Pastor’s Conference for World Evangelism on Monday- Wednesday, May 5-7.  I believe the conference will be a big blessing to challenge and equip you to lead your church to be a world evangelism church.  My pastor has tons of experience of working in and leading others to get involved in world evangelism.  I know that he and the speakers will be a big blessing to you.  The cost is Free! Keep on Keeping On

Posted in Evangelism, Growth by Travis Snode on the 8 March, 2008

On a day like today, when it is cold and rainy and we were getting blown about as we passed out tracts, stories like the one below, sent to me by Wayne Cooke, will help uskeep on keeping on.  Little is much when God is in it.

The Pastor and his son Every Saturday morning at 10:30, the Pastor and his eleven year old son would go out into their town and hand out Gospel Tracts.

This particular Saturday, as it came time for the Pastor and his son to go to the streets with their tracts, it was very cold outside, as well as pouring down rain. The boy bundled up in his warmest and driest clothes and said, ‘OK, dad, I’m ready.’
His Pastor dad asked, ‘Ready for what?’
‘Dad, it’s time we gather our tracts together and go out.’
Dad responds, ‘Son, it’s very cold outside and it’s pouring down rain.’
The boy gives his dad a surprised look, asking, ‘But Dad, aren’t people still going to Hell, even though it’s raining?’
Dad answers, ‘Son, I am not going out in this weather.’
Despondently, the boy asks, ‘Dad, can I go? Please?’
His father hesitated for a moment then said, ‘Son, you can go. Here are the tracts, be careful son.’
‘Thanks Dad!’
And with that, he was off and out into the rain. This eleven year old boy walked the streets of the town going door to door and handing everybody he met in the street a Gospel Tract.
After two hours of walking in the rain, he was soaking, bone-chilled wet and down to his VERY LAST TRACT. He stopped on a corner and looked for someone to hand a tract to, but the streets were totally deserted.
Then he turned toward the first home he saw and started up the sidewalk to the front door and rang the door bell. He rang the bell, but nobody answered.
He rang it again and again, but still no one answered. He waited but still no answer.
Finally, this eleven year old trooper turned to leave, but something stopped him.
Again, he turned to the door and rang the bell and knocked loudly on the door with his fist. He waited, something holding him there on the front porch!
He rang again and this time the door slowly opened.
Standing in the doorway was a very sad-looking elderly lady. She softly asked, ‘What can I do for you, son?’ With radiant eyes and a smile that lit up her world, this little boy said,
‘Ma’am, I’m sorry if I disturbed you, but I just want to tell you that *JESUS REALLY DOES LOVE YOU* and I came to give you my very last Gospel Tract which will tell you all about JESUS and His great LOVE.’
With that, he handed her his last tract and turned to leave.
She called to him as he departed. ‘Thank you, son! And God Bless You!’
Well,  Sunday morning in church Pastor Dad was in the pulpit.
As the service began, he asked, ‘Does anybody have testimony or want to say anything?’
Slowly, in the back row of the church, an elderly lady stood to her feet.
As she began to speak, a look of glorious radiance came from her face, ‘No one in this church knows me. I’ve never been here before.
You see, before yesterday I was not a Christian. My husband passed on some time ago, leaving me totally alone in this world. Yesterday, being a particularly cold and rainy day, it was even more so in my heart that I came to the end of the line where I no longer had any hope or will to live.
So I took a rope and a chair and ascended the stairway into the attic of my home. I fastened the rope securely to a rafter in the roof, then stood on the chair and fastened the other end of the rope around my neck. Standing on that chair, so lonely and brokenhearted I was about to leap off, when suddenly the loud ringing of my doorbell downstairs startled me. I thought, ‘I’ll wait a minute, and whoever it is will go away.’
I waited and waited, but the ringing doorbell seemed to get louder and more insistent, and then the person ringing also started knocking loudly.
I thought to myself again, ‘Who on earth could this be? Nobody ever rings my bell or comes to see me.’ I loosened the rope from my neck and started for the front door, all the while the bell rang louder and louder.
When I opened the door and looked I could hardly believe my eyes, for there on my front porch was the most radiant and angelic little boy I had ever seen in my life. His SMILE, oh, I could never describe it to you!
The words that came from his mouth caused my heart that had long been dead, TO LEAP TO LIFE as he exclaimed with a cherub-like voice, ‘Ma’am, I just came to tell you that JESUS REALLY DOES LOVE YOU.’ Then he gave me this Gospel Tract that I now hold in my hand.
As the little angel disappeared back out into the cold and rain, I closed my door and read slowly every word of this Gospel Tract.. Then I went up to my attic to get my rope and chair. I wouldn’t be needing them any more.
You see—I am now a Happy Child of the KING. Since the address of your church was on the back of this Gospel Tract, I have come here to personally say THANK YOU to God’s little angel who came just in the nick of time and by so doing, spared my soul from an eternity in hell.’
There was not a dry eye in the church. And as shouts of praise and honor to THE KING resounded off the very rafters of the building, Pastor Dad descended from the pulpit to the front pew where the little angel was seated.
He took his son in his arms and sobbed uncontrollably.
Probably no church has had a more glorious moment, and probably this universe has never seen a Papa that was more filled with love & honor for his son… Except for One.
Our Father also allowed His Son to go out into a cold and dark world. He received His Son back with joy unspeakable, and as all of heaven shouted praises and honor to The King, the Father sat His beloved Son on a throne far above all principality and power and every name that is named.
Blessed are your eyes for reading this message.
Don’t let this message die, read it again and pass it to others. Heaven is for His people!
Remember, God’s message CAN make the difference in the life of someone close to you.
Please share this wonderful message…
If you love JESUS, please forward this message.
Spread His Word, and share His goodness and faithfulness.
Matthew 10:32 says
‘Whoever acknowleges Me before men, I will acknowledge him before My Father in heaven. But whoever disowns Me before men, I will disown him before My Father in heaven.’

The 25 Club

Posted in Evangelism by Travis Snode on the 21 January, 2008

We had a great day yesterday in the services.  Thank you for attending and thank you for praying. In the morning, we continued our “Joined Together” series talking about “Learning to Share Unconditional Trust.”  In the evening, we looked at Giving God Maximum Glory in 2008 from Ephesians 3:20-21.Our attendances were down, but it was great to have most of our volunteers in places serving and working so faithfully.  God is going to do great things.  We are preparing, praying, and expecting His blessing. We talked alot about our goals for this year.  There is much we are asking God to do.  One big step is our 25 Club, which is a band of people who commit to knocking on 25 doors or putting leaflets through 25 letterboxes per day.  If we are going to get the gospel to all 33,000 homes in our city and surrounding area, then we need to contact 625 homes/week.  If 5 people committed to 125 homes/week, then we could do that.  Not only do we need help with making the contacts, but we also need people who will put together the literature to distribute.  If you want to get involved, please let us know.

Reaching Out

Posted in Evangelism by Travis Snode on the 17 January, 2008

I am so excited about reaching out and spreading the good news of Jesus Christ.  This week so far, we have knocked on 120 doors. Mark and I knocked on 60 doors on Monday. Grant and I knocked on 12 on Tuesday (the houses had long lanes and plenty of steps).  David and I knocked on 35 on Wednesday, and today, Grant and I knocked on 13 more.  We went to the cityside two days and to the waterside two days.

I am trying to knock on at least 25 doors a day, and I want to ask you to help me.  We met a lady today who is from a Baptist church in England and said that she may visit with us.  No matter what happens, we are trying to obey the Lord and share the gospel.

Saturday, we are going to go over to the town and pass out flyers to the shoppers.  I hope you can join us.  We will meet up at the office at 11.00 AM and then head over to the city centre.

Grace Not Condemnation

Posted in Evangelism by Travis Snode on the 8 November, 2007

I thought the following article went along well with some of the message last night about how negative, condemning attitudes will kill our dreams of seeing the lost get saved.

Yesterday I talked about our responsibility to be grace wholesalers. So here’s where it gets really sad. If you interview people on the streets, few if any, would associate Christianity or Christians or Church with grace. In fact, people today associate Christians and the Church with the exact opposite of grace. When they think of Christians and Church they think of zero tolerance, of judgment, of condemnation.

Celebration Sunday Fun Day

Posted in Announcements, Evangelism by Travis Snode on the 31 August, 2007

Here is our version of Jesus’s feeding the five thousand and doing the miracles.  We are trying to get a crowd to be able to give the message of Christ, so that we can train those who are interested to go out and reach others.

This flyer will be going out to 14,115 homes on Monday and Tuesday.  Pray that God will use it and we will have many folks come out on Celebration Sunday so we can preach the gospel to them.

Fired Up About Evangelism!

Posted in Church, Evangelism by Travis Snode on the 6 August, 2007

Yesterday was a wonderful day meeting with God’s people.   It was great to be able to focus our eyes once again on Jesus, and how he can meet the needs of the world.  Also, it was great to have Evan and Carmen Williams, missionaries to Honduras, with us in both services.  I am so ashamed at my own lack of love for souls and burden for the world.

I am fired up and want to see God work in people’s lives.  I am hoping to get to at least 300 new doors this week.  Last night after the service, I just had to go talk to a young man in our neighborhood about attending church this coming Sunday and he said he would!

We had 10 in the morning service and 12 in the evening, and we are still praying for 20 this Sunday.

One other thing I wanted to mention that is exciting!  Gary from the Broomhill Hotel, said we could put our banners out everyday on the front fence, which is great becuase it is on a very busy road and is like a free billboard for the church.  I will go put it up and take it down every day.  Praise God for this!  God is very good to us.

Visits

Posted in Evangelism by Travis Snode on the 19 July, 2007

Teri and I and the kids were able to visit 58 homes today.  Only two refused to take the literature, and we met some nice people who we pray will come visit the church.  Many of the people were not home, but we will just continue to sow the seed.

Community Outreach - This Saturday

Posted in Evangelism by Travis Snode on the 12 July, 2007

Saturday 1:30 pm

On Saturdays, our church will be doing some community outreach.  We will be visiting people who have visited with us in the past, as well as going to new houses to invite people to church and talk with them about their faith.

I hope that you will try to make it out, if you can.  We will meet at 10 Pelham Rd at 1.30 pm on Saturday, go over what we will be doing, pray together, and then go out for an hour or two, depending on how much time people have.

If you want to just be a silent partner and go with one of us who has gone before, that will be fine.  There will be no pressure; just come and let us know what you are comfortable with.

Grant and I went to 32 doors this afternoon.  We met a nice couple from South Africa who were interested in the church, so praise the Lord for that.
