Tuesday – Wednesday: Outreach Mission

I did not get a chance to post after our mission on Tuesday and Wednesday night, but the Lord blessed us with great services each night.

On Tuesday, John Anderson preached a great message on the feeding of the 5,000 and the importance of multiplication which happens when we give what we have to the Lord.  We tried to do a skype interview with Kevin Hall in South Africa, but his internet was giving him problems.

On Wednesday, we enjoyed talking to Jeff Bush in Argentina.  It is so exciting what the Lord is doing down there in their ministry.  Bro. John preached another powerful message on “What Makes a Great Church.”  It takes strong churches to reach the world.

I was so happy with how God really spoke to us through our mission this year.  Thank you so much to those who came, and to the Bakers and Andersons who were such a blessing in the mission.  Please pray for each of these families as they work in the UK.

Great Quote by Charles Spurgeon

“Someone asked, ‘Will the heathen who have never heard the Gospel be saved?’ It is more a question with me whether we — who have the Gospel and fail to give it to those who have not — can be saved.”

Busy Yet Lazy

source

Lazy? Not me. I’m busy. Up early, up late. My schedule is filled from beginning to end. I love what I do and I love getting stuff done. I attack a daily to-do list with the same intensity I play basketball. Me lazy? I don’t think so!

Or at least I didn’t think so. That is, until I read about the difference between busyness and fruitfulness, and realized just how often my busyness was an expression of laziness, not diligence.

I forget now who first brought these points to my attention. But the realization that I could be simultaneously busy and lazy, that I could be a hectic sluggard, that my busyness was no immunity from laziness, became a life-altering and work-altering insight. What I learned is that:

  • Busyness does not mean I am diligent
  • Busyness does not mean I am faithful
  • Busyness does not mean I am fruitful

This Coming Weekend

We had a great service last night at the church.  Stephen did a tremendous job preaching on “Single Focus.”  The music was great.  It is a blessing to have musicians play for us in each service.

I am very exciting about our mission that is starting this Saturday.  I hope that you will join us in Limavady for a meal and message from God’s Word.  Also, Sunday is our Diversity Day when we will invite people from other cultures to visit with us.

Sunday is also our first day to take up our Christian Offering, which I hope that you will pray about.  The offering will be taken up until Christmas and probably until the end of the year, to allow everyone enough time to give.

Steve Baker Preaching Tonight

SteveandAprilI

It is a blessing to have Stephen and April Bakers visit with us for a couple of weeks.  They are church-planting missionaries to the British Isles.  Steve will be preaching for us tonight at 7.30 PM and Saturday at the our International Banquet at 6.00 PM.  I hope that you make plans to come tonight to hear him preach.

The banquet on Saturday will be in conjuction with Roe Valley Baptist Church and will be held at the church building in Limavady.

The Danger of Hypocrisy

by William Secker, “The Consistent Christian” 1660

“Having a form of godliness–but denying its power.” (2 Timothy 3:5)

Formality frequently takes its dwelling near the chambers of integrity, and so assumes its name; the soul not suspecting that hell should make so near an approach to heaven. A rotten post, though covered with gold, is more fit to be burned in the fire, than for the building of a fabric. Where there is a pure conscience–there will be a pure conversation. The dial of our faces does not infallibly show–the time of day in our hearts. Thehumblest looks may enamel the face–while unbounded pride governs the heart!

A hypocrite may be both the fairest creature–and the foulest creature in the world! He may be fairest outwardly in the eyes of man–and foulest inwardly in the sight of God. How commonly do such uncleanswans cover their black flesh with their white feathers! Though such wear the mantle of Samuel–they should bear the name of Satan!

Many appear righteous–who are only righteous in appearance. But while they are deceiving others with thefalse shows of holiness–they are also deceiving themselves with the false hopes of happiness. The hypocrite would not willingly appear evil–and yet would inwardly be evil. He would gladly be accounted godly–and yet would not be godly.

Man, either appear what you are–or be what you appear. What will the form of godliness do for you–if you deny the power thereof? Those who have the power of godliness, cannot deny the form; while those who have the form of godliness, may deny the power.

Hypocrites resemble looking-glasses–which present faces that are not in them. Oh, how desirous are men to put the fairest gloves–upon the foulest hands; and the finest paint–upon the rottenest posts!

Hypocrites are better in show–than in substance. They are like painted tombs–which enclose decayed bones. That is a sad charge, which the God of truth brings against certain false professors, “I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews, and are not–but are the synagogue of Satan!” A false friend–is worse than an open enemy. A painted harlot is less dangerous–than a painted hypocrite. A treacherous Judas is more abhorred by God–than a bloody Pilate!

Professors! Remember–the sheep’s clothing will soon be stripped from the wolf’s back! The velvet plaster of profession–shall not always conceal the offensive ulcer of corruption. Neither the ship of formalitynor hypocrisy–will carry a person to the harbor of felicity. The blazing lamps of foolish virgins may light them to the bridegroom’s gate–but not into His chamber. Either get the nature of Christ within you–or take nameof Christ away from you.

A bad man is certainly the worst–when he is seemingly the best. We must not account everyone a soldier–who swaggers with a sword. A rusty sword–may frequently be found in a highly decorated scabbard. What good is it to have our hands as white as snow–if our hearts are as black as the bottomless pit! Such professors resemble soap bubbles–smooth and pretty without–yet only filled with air!

A man may wear the Savior’s livery–and yet be busied in Satan’s drudgery! The skin of an apple may be fair–when it is rotten at the core! Though all gold may glitter–yet all is not gold that glitters. The worst hypocrite may have the color of gold–but not the value of gold!

Sold Themselves into Slavery for the Cause of Christ

Below is an incredible story about the commitment of some people to the cause of Christ.

Allow me to leave you with an excerpt from a sermon by Paris Reidhead:

“Two young Moravians heard of an island in the West Indies where an atheist British owner had 2000 to 3000 slaves. And the owner had said, ‘No preacher, no clergyman, will ever stay on this island. If he’s ship wrecked we’ll keep him in a separate house until he has to leave, but he’s never going to talk to any of us about God, I’m through with all that nonsense.’ Three thousand slaves from the jungles of Africa brought to an island in the Atlantic and there to live and die without hearing of Christ.

Two young Moravians heard about it. They sold themselves to the British planter and used the money they received from their sale, for he paid no more than he would for any slave, to pay their passage out to his island for he wouldn’t even transport them. As the ship left its pier in the river at Hamburg and was going out into the North Sea carried with the tide, the Moravians had come from Herrenhut to see these two lads off, in their early twenties. Never to return again, for this wasn’t a four year term, they sold themselves into lifetime slavery. Simply that as slaves, they could be as Christians where these others were. The families were there weeping, for they knew they would never see them again. And they wondered why they were going and questioned the wisdom of it. As the gap widened and the housings had been cast off and were being curled up there on the pier, and the young boys saw the widening gap, one lad with his arm linked through the arm of his fellow, raised his hand and shouted across the gap the last words that were heard from them, they were these, ‘MAY THE LAMB THAT WAS SLAIN RECEIVE THE REWARD OF HIS SUFFERING!’”

Great Training Session

It was a huge blessing to have a David Jackson with Child Evangelism Fellowship with us today to do a training session on Child Protection.  David is the Child Protection Co-ordinator with CEF, and has many year of experience working with children.  He spoke to a group of 7 of us workers from both Northwest Baptist Church and Roe Valley Baptist Church.  Several other workers could not make it for various reasons.  I was so pleased with how the day went.  I think everyone had a great time and left encouraged and excited about continuing to work with children and young people.

I wanted to say a special thank you to David, and if you are looking for someone to provide similar training for your church, he is a great guy to get in.  Let me know and I can give you his contact details.
