Great Mother/Daughter Banquet

p2270004small.jpgThe Lord blessed the Mother/Daughter Banquet, as well as our service last night.

We had 16 ladies and daughters over age 11 there for the meal before the service.  Marsha Smith sang and spoke to the ladies.  I heard that everyone really enjoyed the meal and the word that Mrs. Smith brought.

The men did a great job serving the ladies and helping in the creche watching the children.

There were 30 folks in the service last night (8 of those folks were ladies from other churches).  We also had a girl accept the Lord as her Saviour last night!

You can see a video of part of the night by clicking here.

Worshipping God as a Family

I read this article on Austin Gardner’s blog and wanted to post it on here.

The following notes are based on an article by John Piper that I challenge you to take the time to read. Just click here to read the article!

Our children need to learn how to act in church. They need to learn how to worship! Here are some practical ideas based on the article.

1. You as parents much be excited about getting to go to the worship service. You must fall in love with the Lord Jesus and love worshipping in Him! Your children know if you enjoy the worship service or not! They know if you anticipate the chance to worship God or if you are just going through the motions.

2. Your children are going to catch your spirit and form of worship. If you are excited and if you love God they will catch it. Remember it is more caught than taught!

3. Do you both sing with joy and listen hungrily to the Word of God?

4. Your children are old enough to sit still and listen in church. If they are old enough to go to school they are definitely old enough to be disciplined enough to sit still and listen during a regular length worship service.

5. Though your children will not understand everything they will learn a great deal. They will learn the songs, get used to the service, pick up things that are said, and learn how important worshipping God is to you.

6. The majority of people who get saved do so as children. Get your children in church. Teach them to sit still and listen. Pray that God will work in their hearts.

7. Help your children to get to know the pastor and other spiritual leaders.

8. Learn to talk about the services that you have just been in at the table with the family. Let them hear how excited you are. Let them hear how you anticipate the coming service. Talk about the music. Talk about the message and the invitation. Spend time making them know that you really love the church services.

9. Take your children to the bathroom before the service and tell them how excited you are for the family to worship God together without distractions.

10. Teach your children to participate in the service. They need to stand, sit, sing, read, take notes, etc. just like you do. That will help you to get them involved and give you a chance to discuss what God did during the service later at home.

11. Teach your children to sit up straight and still. Teach them not to fidget and crawl around. Teach them to pay attention to the service and not be looking at people, games, and other distractions.

12. Make sure your child has his or her own Bible, offering, bulletin, etc.

Be sure and read the article by John Piper. This little summary is by no means sufficient for you to see all that he has to say.

Sunday Night Report

Even though we were in a smaller room today because our larger room was being used by another group, we had 36 people in attendance in the morning service and 16 tonight.  We looked at the second message in our series – “God’s Four Purposes for our Money.” Thanks to all our volunteers who worked so hard today and thank you for all those who gave lifts today.

Donut Drop

We had a very fun day today taking free pastries around to area businesses and sharing Christ’s love in a practical way.  I wish you could have seen and heard the responses as we told people we were giving them some free pastries for their tea break.  I am sure that there were a lot of interesting conversations today as people talked about the church who brought free pastries.  Here are pictures.

Youth Drop-in Centre

We had a good time tonight at our Youth Drop-in Centre at the Junction on Bishop St, City Centre.  There were 5 young people, 3 helpers, and 1 adult.  We have 30 minutes of games (table tennis, video games, darts, and pool), 30 minutes of music and a message from God’s Word, then snacks and some more time for games.

The hall that we have rented for this is in the city centre where young people from all backgrounds congregate.  Continue to pray for us as we try to reach young people and train them to be Christian leaders.

Two Professions of Faith

We had 17 in the service last night and 2 of the girls that we bring to church made a profession of faith last night.  Praise the Lord!

Update

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to preach at Carrickfergus Grammar School to the Scripture Union group there.  I talked about Man’s Purpose.  David drove me up there.  I appreciate his willingness to do so.

Last night, we had our final Newcomer’s Group with 6 children and 11 adults in attendance.  We talked about our vision for the future.  I hope that the group was a help to all who attended.

The purpose of the group is to: 1) inform newcomers to our church about our church’s beliefs, vision, and history, 2) allow newcomers to get to know the pastor, his wife, and other newcomers, and 3) have an opportunity to ask questions in a safe environment.  We will be offering at least one more 6-week group this year as we have other newcomers come into the church.

Reminder: On Thursday at 7.00 PM is men’s visitation to call with visitors to the church, shut-ins, hospital visits, and new contacts.  On Monday at 11.00 AM is our ladies’ visitation.  The men will go out every Thursday and the women every 2nd and 4th Monday unless otherwise notified.

Sunday Night Report

Today was a very special day in the life of our church, one that I will always remember, one that had the blessing of God on it, and one of the best in the life of our church so far.

We met in the new hotel, and it was a wonderful experience.  The room we are in is much larger and gives us room to grow and to fellowship with one another.  We had 30 folks in attendance this morning.  4 of them were Bro. Layton Kelly and family, missionaries who work with those who struggle from addictions, out of Lifegate Bible Baptist Church in Dublin.  The message was on “Becoming Financially Free,” and I think it was a help to some people.

In the evening, Bro. Kelly preached on “Life Change” and did a great job.  We had 24 folks in the service, with 1 first-time visitor and 1 lady made a profession of faith after the service.

48 pounds came in especially for the Kelly’s love offering today.  Total, we gave him 150 pounds from the church.  Thank you all very much for giving and being such a blessing to them while they were here.  Please keep their minstry in your prayers.

We had a great spirit of love for one another, an inspirational time of worship, a sweet spirit of submission to God in the invitation, and a deeper commitment to world evangelism.  God is great and greatly to be praised!
